TV Market Research (KSNV)

I’ve chose KSNV Channel 3 in Las Vegas. The programming is NBC and the owner of the station is Sinclair broadcast Group. KSNV covers all of Las Vegas news from sports to anything else. Las Vegas is the 42nd top television market.

KSNV takes pride in delivering news quickly, accurately and in depth. The designated market area of KSNV is Las Vegas. They cover Henderson, N. Las Vegas, Paradise, and Spring Valley.  As far as newspaper go, you can follow up on KSNV with the Review Journal who is also owned by Sinclair Broadcasting.

“KLRJ Channel-2 signed on the air Jan. 23, 1955, owned by publishers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal”. (Video Vault channel 3).  KSNV makes their money by being the top of the news chain for so long, when I asked an employee Ron. I asked him was there a time you guys struggled, he said “this business never struggled and we’ve always made money”. They really didn’t have struggling years in the money aspect.

"KSNV presently broadcasts a total of 44 hours of locally produced newscasts each week in addition, the station produces one locally produced program". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSNV

Sinclair Broadcasting Group bought KSNV in 2014 for about $120 million dollars. KSNV was owned by West Communications Co. and KSNV is NBC affiliate program. This group have services for 163 television stations in 77 markets. http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/sinclair-broadcast-buy-las-vegas-nbc-affiliate-ksnv

When I called and interviewed the engineer of the news station about their approach to broadcast he said “we use live views.” The reason being is because they have cellular technology now. When they go out and broadcast for news they usually have 5 live views. The name of what they use is called Dejero a live video transport.

Later when I asked him about the impact of new technology in the future. He said, “It changes year by year, and fir us we will use satellite trucks if it is too far out.”  In a couple of years with the technology growing so fast you won’t need news reporters, because people will be able to control everything with a smartphone, he said.
